This course takes a holistic and practical look at health and safety in the office environment, construction as well as working in confined spaces. The focus is on the identification, analysis and monitoring of hazards and risks in the work environment. It also discusses the role of organisational culture, management and the safety practitioner in maintaining safe and healthy work environments.

HR professionals, team leaders, supervisors, and senior managers of an organisation that is directly responsible for the organisation’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System. Safety Representatives, Fire Marshalls, Health and Safety Officers or Safety Officers, construction managers (CR8.1) and Line Constructors.

In many cases, organisations also need to be compliant with health and safety regulations to obtain certification which sometimes needs to be presented to third party regulators and various government agencies. Further to this, it is beneficial for organisations to reduce workplace accidence as well as any other health issues as these all impact the profitability of the organisation.

Upon completion of the course, students can apply to the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Saiosh) for technical membership (We are waiting for our application to be approved). The course focuses on health and safety in the office, construction and confined spaces enhancing Safety Practitioners’ and Managers’ understanding of the requirements pertaining to the management of employees’ health and their safety. The course is focused on the practical knowledge a Safety Practitioner needs to contribute effectively to health and safety matters.
