Short Course: Brain Food, Makes Your Thinking Good

Our bodies and our brains are in some ways are quite similar to a very high tech machine. Imagine a high performance car, it can have all the most amazing features to make it the fastest car on the planet, but without fuel it’s going nowhere, klaar! Now you can put fuel in it, but if it’s not the right kind of fuel, you may get it to go, but you are not going to get the best performance from it! Angekhe! And in the end, you will cut its life span short and ruin the engine. So what about the sophisticated machine that is your brain? You need it to perform at its best, especially when it is time for exams. For you, who is an iQ Academy student, you are doing distance learning. You probably have a job, so you have to manage quite a lot. So mamela, we are going to help you.

Eat Balanced Meals

In simple terms, you need more than just inyama (meat)! Make sure that you have a mixture of vitamins, proteins and the right kinds of fat on your plate. But just so we are on the same page, let’s break it down:

  • Whole Grains Eat good carbohydrates, not the refined nonsense that is fashionable to eat. Stay away from white bread, and do eat whole wheat. Try not to eat meal pap so much but do eat things like whole grain oats and brown rice.
  • Oily Fish This type of oily fish is NOT to be confused with fish that is deep fried. Hayikhona! Deep frying food is not good for you. What we are talking about here are particular types of fish that have oils naturally occurring in them that are good for the brain e.g. Pilchards and Salmon.
  • Pumpkin Seeds and Broccoli Pumpkin seeds have a high Zinc content, which studies have linked to enhancing good memory and thinking skills. They are also high in magnesium, vitamin B and tryptophan, all good for keeping one in a positive mood. Broccoli with vitamin K is another super brain food.
  • Go Nuts Studies show that nuts are good for protecting your brain functions. So go ahead and add them to your snack pack.

At iQA we help you train your mind to reach the next level! It’s your job to nourish your mind so that it can take you there.
